Alice in Hamilton: A Patent Ethics Musical is the award-winning Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program in which the Ben Franklin American Inn of Court combined legal ethics education with ten song parodies inspired by the hit musical Hamilton. The cast included eight lawyers, one law student, and four kids (ages 11-14) — who earned their roles not only by opening their parents' eyes to Hamilton, but by coaching a team of middle-aged lawyers who were making their debut as rappers.

The songbook tells a story against a background of patent law arising from Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank (a 2014 Supreme Court patent case), with a dash of Alice in Wonder­land. Transformed by new lyrics and reimagined characters, the songs raised ethical issues for present-day patent practitioners. In discussion segments between the songs, lawyers explored the relevant legal and ethical issues. This once-in-a-lifetime presentation was the Franklin Inn's eighth theatrical CLE program, and third CLE musical.
